Most in here seem to think Africa is a land of sticks and stones still. Forgetting that Egypt, Morocco, and Nigeria all field major armored formations of largely American and Russian tanks. They forget that most of the continent flies modern F-16’s, Rafales, and MiG’s. They forget that Europe has no fuel reserves outside the Balkans and the powers in Europe were all in a crippling fuel shortage and don’t have any overseas territories to sustain them in this scenario. They forget that the technological gap is absolutely unsustainably massive. Sure give Europe a decade and maybe they can start plausibly making some inroads. The issue being Africa has modern industry as well particularly again Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Morocco, and Tunisia. They can rebuild equipment, supplies, munitions. The war will be over in a couple years. Most European aircraft in 1939 don’t have the range to get beyond North Africa’s coastline flying from Sicily even. The Mediterranean would be swept clear of surface vessels by modern guided weaponry deployed from aircraft, subs would be wiped out by vastly more advanced Anti-Sub countermeasures than any sub dealt with in WW2 (No sub of WW2 had to deal with guided diving torps or sonar so sensitive they could hear a damn fart). Then the armored brigades go ashore and annihilate everything in their path. You though the Italian and Spanish armies were poor for 1939, it will be like a hot knife through butter. Within months they are knocking on the Alps where maybe terrain offers the defender some advantage, but every swathe of industry captured is industry that can be retooled.
