@drkathynickerson: Are intrusive thoughts and painful mental images making it difficult to be intimate with your partner after an affair? This is an incredibly common struggle during infidelity recovery. You might be cuddling, kissing, or enjoying a beautiful moment together when suddenly an upsetting image of your partner with the affair partner pops into your mind. It can feel devastating. Here are two strategies I sometimes recommend to help betrayed partners cope with these painful images. First, try changing the image. Instead of imagining a perfect, romantic, movie-like scene between your partner and the affair partner, deliberately imagine something messier, uglier, smellier, or less appealing. Sometimes taking the glamour out of the mental picture can reduce its emotional impact. Second, think about your partner’s cells! This beautiful idea came from a client who is a medical doctor. She found comfort in remembering that our bodies are constantly renewing themselves. Many of our cells are replaced or regenerated over time. She imagined that the person she was touching today was physically different from the person who had participated in the affair. This helped her reconnect with her husband without feeling overwhelmed by images of the past. Neither strategy works for everyone, but sometimes a small shift in perspective can make a meaningful difference. If you’re a betrayed partner who has struggled with intrusive thoughts during intimacy after cheating or betrayal, what has helped you? Let’s share our wisdom and help each other heal. #infidelityrecovery #infidelityhealing #betrayaltrauma #affairrecovery #cheatinghusband

He told me things he did to her and when he does them to me..:it brings me back to him telling me…so I have a drink before we have sex…I’m not much of a drinker so one drink makes a big difference

What’s your thoughts on if you HAVE to stay with your spouse and tried everything for years to heal and it hasn’t worked. So having your own affair and then imagining that while being intimate with your spouse? I have heard this working wonders for a lot of people who have been trying to heal for 5 years or more and nothing else worked

I think if you focus on the pleasure that the AP recieved vs. the lain it caused in your lartner...it hurts and brings about feelings of resentment and anger. Instead try to think about the amount of internal pain and remorse that your partner was going through at the time. Yoir relationship isnt dependent on the AP its the life of your partner. If theyhave TRUE regret, TRUE guilt and TRUE shame(which is necessary for reconciliation) Picture them in thst moment, their wants, tgeir needs and their bad decisions to attempt to fix those...tgen ask yourself whether you have ever made a bad decision. IF they truly are living with shame and guilt and KNOW they were wrong, they need you as much or more as you need them. Just because people do bad things, doesnt mean they are bad people.

I can’t stop looking at her tictoks ( were he met her) she always used filters but she was so pretty, they never met but were talking 6 months, I saw all the messages how they love each other, her face is on my mind all the time , it’s ruining my life, I did recently block her, it definitely helps but fine myself unblocking her sometimes, I feel like a nut case

I just treated her as a sex object and as a free prostitute while I planned the divorce from the cheater. Of course she didn’t know that I knew about her infidelity
