Honestly, I think most body dysphoria is due to modern Western culture, not the person afflicted.

why does it seem that so many cultures will have a term for people born male but end up aligning more with femininity or androgyny compared to people born female and aligning with masculinity or androgyny?

I’ve heard of a few cultures that accept/celebrate feminine males are there any that equally accept/celebrate masculine females. Please forgive the binary wording, it’s just the easiest way to ask the question.

I’d love if you could do videos over other old cultures that have more than two genders. My partner is very confused about it and asked me to show him examples of it in other cultures than ours. Thank you for making this one!!

This reminds me of an anthropology course I took in college where we learned about Hijra, third gender people recognized in India for centuries.

I think they have these types of people in Samoan culture too. I could be wrong though and will stand corrected if need be.

Every human being naturally has both male and female energy inside them. We have the potential to be whatever we like, humans are remarkably flexible and dynamic. It is ultimately what you choose for yourself that is what you are....and that choice is always right

This is so cool! I recently wrote about a third gender in India, and it’s so cool to think about the similarities and differences.

The term assigned implies that the doctor just chose for them their gender, as if another doctor could have assigned them something else if they chose to. It's such a manipulative way to say "born as"

Ngl I’m a little confused by the “those of us that grew up in a strict European binary, can’t really understand” part. I understand that cultural differences especially those centered around gender can be shocking at first to any group. But with cultural exposure/understanding, education, and support, I’d imagine most people would get it regardless of background. Saying that kind of just feels like a copt out, for labeling it as different/weird n moving on rather than trying for acceptance. I could be wrong here tho. Are there any sources that support her claim?
