hot take: Tommy wasnt afraid of vision, he was afraid of everything associated with him. he was scared of what remembering vision came with bc they were very quick to label him as insane. people were constantly denying that he remembered these things and called him insane, and he didnt want to be insane and refused to be insane. ill admit, vision did look kinda scary during this scene, but i bet that wasnt all he was afraid of. someone said that he didnt recognized that that was vision, and i feel that that might be true
