@thesecurerelationship: Grieving the end of a relationship is hard in a way other losses aren’t... because the person you would normally turn to for comfort is the one you’ve lost. Our attachment system is built to reach for our person when we’re hurting. So when that person is gone, the pain itself sends you looking for them. You find yourself checking their profile, rereading old texts, drafting a message you know you shouldn’t send, thinking, “If I could just talk to them once, I’d feel better.” None of that means you’re weak or that you haven’t moved on. It’s your attachment system doing exactly what it was designed to do, searching for a connection that isn’t there anymore. What helps is giving that reaching somewhere safe to land. A friend who will let you say the same thing for the tenth time. A journal where you write the message instead of sending it. Small routines that belong only to you. Over time, your nervous system learns that comfort can come from other places too... and that’s often when the urge to reach back starts to quiet.
