I thought the point of an expensive wedding ring was if the husband died the wife could sell it and have money until she got her feet back under her?

Yeah except most girls growing up are taught that getting married and having a family will be the most important thing they will do in their life. Hence why they tend to make such a big deal out of it calling it a narcissist pursuit feels very misogynistic considering most girls are taught that that pursuit is basically their life meaning. 🤷🏼‍♀️just a thought

It’s also very American to think “parties” are something negative. If you view it more as a gathering of those you love to break bread together is it still narcissistic?

I think it’s beautiful, I mean it’s forever, it’s to show how much you love them not to entertain others.

the amount of stuff isn't really performative it would be the size of em cus most of those things sound like small things to do with friends and family and usually the friends or family plan it

I told my bf when he proposed that I don’t want a super expensive ring, and that I don’t want a big wedding. I don’t even think him and I are gonna do bachelorette and bachelor parties. Just do one party and that’s the wedding

Let’s not forget abt the big debt they both have to share which would just end up in more arguments after the eventual happiness

I had a courthouse marriage. it was me, my wife, and 2 strangers I gave 20$ to in the parking lot to be our witnesses. there's simplicity in the fact it mattered more than the ceremony, attention, or expectations surrounding it. it was about me, my wife, and the promise to build a life together.

this sounds dumb but I’ve always idolized the corpse brides concept of a wedding because it’s always seemed to simple to express the love I’d have for my life partner no matter the ring or decor :/

Idk man I just want to celebrate the fact that I (as well as my man) have found my life partner that I’ll never ever part from💔I wanna make the day and the days leading up to it the most memorable ever. If I had to put a box around myself through all of these events, I’d still do it

My honeymoon would likely be in a snowy cabin with skiing, snowboarding, sledding, cozy nights-in. And oh my godddd I do NOT want some large gaudy ugly ring!! Bachelorette party will never happen for me, post brunch likely won’t happen, rehearsal dinner seems kinda pointless. I only want a wedding and reception to celebrate the love and so we can have seats for the passed-away relatives. 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Me and my man have made it very very clear when we have the money to get married. We will go to the courthouse, elope, and go on a honeymoon vacation just the three of us (our daughter). We don’t care about rings or ceremonies. We just want to be together. That’s all that matters

I cant wait to get married in my grandparents backyard. bbq and potluck, end the night in a bonfire. no rehearsal dinner, cheap thrifted dress, simple rings. ill even help cook the food while we're there, in my dress.
