@artemiscollective: The Mycenaeans Part 4: What They Looked Like 🏺 | We know the Mycenaeans as the people behind the world of Homer. But what did they actually look like? Frescoes from Pylos and Tiryns show elaborate clothing, braided hair, ivory hairpins, pale-painted female figures, and the infamous red “sun blush” pattern seen on plaster heads from Mycenae. The archaeology fills in more. Elite clothing could be decorated with gold. Linear B records purple-dyed textiles and even garments associated specifically with the wanax. Malachite traces on female remains may point to green eye paint. And skeletal analysis shows that some elite Mycenaean men were unusually tall, muscular, well-fed, and physically marked by combat. So between the frescoes, the clothing, the cosmetics, and the people buried at Mycenae, we can get surprisingly close to the world their stories came from. Sources: Laskari, Anna. those fresco’s are beautiful! i really thank you so much for these videos! they truly put into perspective how advanced and complex this region was centuries before what we call the “classical” era. i wish we could decipher linear a so badly!!!!!
