I think imu came from space to reclaim the throne his ancient behind when the first world was destroyed and was eventually taken over by the Davy family. This is probably why imu says Davy jones was never king. I think imu first came from the moon peacefully after an entity told him to come back to the real world like how the devil told eve to take from the tree of knowledge to reclaim what was once his people’s .And once he came back after centuries of isolation (the reason why he speaks in older dialect) he explains his situation to the king at the time.The king promises to make him his heir instead of his Davy jones but something happens later on that changes his decision.but before that the king makes him the ruler of a iron rich country and is forced to export minerals in order to keep their deal alive .his island is also responsible for making the blades for the twenty kings and possibly emet. Eventually he cracks because he feels betrayed and embarrassed and kills the 20 kings and makes their blades his own again.

Joyboy fought to protect the technology which so happened to also fall in line with the ancient kingdoms interests so it wasn’t that he was fighting on their side per say cuz remeber joyboy was the first pirate meaning he wanted to leave the ancient kingdom even though he was from there I think through his travels he realized the tech could be used to liberate the world and oppressed people but learned imu wanted to destroy the kingdom and its weapons so joyboy fought to protect the ancient weapons as they could be used to unite the world
