@adhd_riley: 🧠💜 ADHD & THE BASAL GANGLIA: WHY STARTING IS SOMETIMES THE HARDEST PART Ever sit there knowing EXACTLY what you need to do, wanting to do it, but somehow you just can’t get yourself started? 😩 It’s one of the most frustrating parts of ADHD! The basal ganglia are a group of structures deep within the brain that help regulate movement, motivation, habits, and initiating actions. Research suggests that differences in brain circuits involving the basal ganglia may contribute to some of the challenges people with ADHD experience. 💜 Struggling to start simple tasks. 💜 Jumping between unfinished projects. 💜 Having trouble building consistent routines. 💜 Feeling stuck even when you genuinely WANT to get something done. Here’s the important part: Knowing what needs to be done and being able to initiate it are two different things. It’s not always a lack of motivation or effort. Sometimes the brain systems involved in turning intentions into actions aren’t working as efficiently. 🌸 Start small. Celebrate progress. Work with your brain instead of constantly fighting against it. Because sometimes the biggest accomplishment isn’t finishing the task. It’s finally getting started. ❤️ #ADHDAwareness #ADHDRiley #ADHDBrain #ExecutiveDysfunction #Neurodiversity
