@principal.after.h: I’ve spent 23 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. One of the hardest things I’ve witnessed is watching outstanding educators slowly lose the joy they once had. Not because they stopped caring about kids. Because the expectations keep growing while the support doesn’t always keep up. Teachers, what is ONE thing that would make you love your job again? Follow Principal After Hours. We’re going to have the conversations education desperately needs. #TeacherTok #TeacherBurnout #PrincipalLife #TeachersOfTikTok #Education

It’s a part the system. Absolutely. But note also parents. How many of teachers or admin have heard this “my child’s been bullied since gr 1….”

23 years here and I am done. My heart is broken and I feel defeated. I can’t keep taking on every difficult student or group because I’m told “you can handle it”. Everyone has their breaking point. I’m at mine.

I think to a certain extent that is what the system wants - not teachers with passion, just ones that go along with things. They want teachers to exist, not be complex people with devotion to their students, with passion and love, with feelings and heart.

I felt every word. Teaching is draining mentally and physically. I love what I do but have nothing left at the end of the day.

26 years. I’m going everything I can to get my own business up and running. I’m exhausted and I can’t do this any more. I teachers across the nation would walk out snd not come back till every demand was met maybe we could slowly reverse the damage that the SDE and society has caused.

I retired in May. It was my 29th year. My heart wanted to keep teaching, but the job required more than my soul could give.

I am disillusion right now. The profession betrayed me. No consequences for students and parents yet the stakes are high for teachers.

Thank you for being honest as an administrator and not in denial of the epidemic of teachers leaving the classroom. Some teachers are not leaving because they don’t love what they do, they are leaving because the passion has been replaced with disrespect and more work; low pay.

I am trying to look at it differently. I’m not going to give any more than I can. Go ahead and fire me. At least I will be able to collect unemployment 🤣

It’s my first year and I’m nit going to last. It’s not the kids. Yes they are difficult but I knew that coming in. It’s all of the other stuff constantly thrown at me by administrators

As an educator for three decades, the thing that bothered me the most is getting involved in "the next best thing" every year - We weren't good at the last best thing and here we go again on the next best thing - You need to refine the art and craft of teaching not pile up new best things!
