I’m French, I find this ridiculous. The protest started against rising fuel prices, but student demands and LFI got involved, and the original purpose was lost. Shops were looted, cars burned and buildings vandalised. Violent threats reportedly circulated beforehand, yet police seemed overwhelmed. LFI wants to ban certain police weapons, but how can officers protect us if defending themselves is called police brutality? We’re at the point where police need water cannons to hold back crowds — this looks like a video game, except the damage is real and we pay the price. How does destroying France help the French? I also want to make it clear that many French people were shocked and saddened by what happened. Many of us strongly disagree with what they did. France has 69 million people, but only 550,000 to 800,000 protested.
