I’ve always practiced that your screams should be as loud as your singing can comfortably sit. Max resting clean volume. That said, your advice is solid af. I switch between screams and cleans so consistent volume is pretty important but if I just did screams, I wouldn’t be trying to be as loud af. That’s why so many of these metal vocalist gets 3 years of good vocals followed by 5 vocal surgeries and never being able to sound as good as they did in 2010.

one thing that helps me is to "whisper" the screams. the distortion works great like this, but I can't go much above it. I mean, of course, this video is exactly about volume, but still, aren't whispers I bit too little?

Not metal but what’s your take on Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters’ grit singing and screams? He has this kind of rumble/gargle going on that transitions super smoothly into full screams. He performs this sort of medium-high that I can’t find any resources for, like everything skips from mid to banshee and he’s not quite either.
