He writes about it in his new memoir, Bloodlines. Manganiello briefly played Deathstroke in Justice League. He says he was set to return as the main villain in a Batman film that Ben Affleck planned to write, direct, produce, and star in. According to Manganiello, Affleck described it as “a superhero version of David Fincher’s The Game.” He writes that Deathstroke would “dismantle Batman’s entire life” after being led to believe Batman had Murd*red his son. He also claims the plot included Deathstroke klling Commissioner Gordon, taking Alfred hostage, and breaking into the Batcave. He says a mid-movie fight would have seen Deathstroke nearly kll both Batman and Batgirl before they escaped on a train. Manganiello says the film would have ended with a showdown through the streets of Gotham. He writes that Affleck said it would be inspired by a fight in the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game. He says he told Affleck that doing all those jobs sounded like “a lot.” He writes that Affleck replied, “You’re in good hands, man.” Affleck was attached to a solo Batman film after Batman v. Superman. In 2019, he told Jimmy Kimmel he “couldn’t crack” the project. Robert Pattinson later took over the role in 2022’s The Batman.
