I'd be wondering, if his family owned rural property/farmland that would justify hunting deer or other wild animals with the use of a gun. We have friends that love hunting who teach their sons gun safety and that guns shouldnt be used for actions that are against the law. Some gun owners complete training sessions, and if needed, are skilled at using them during an emergency to incapacitate an intruder under the basis of self defense. Doesnt add up to automatically blame the parent...many unanswered questions. For example, were the children that passed away standing behind the teacher that lost her life too? How long ago was the gun purchased? Was the student shooter a former student of the impacted teachers? Hope those families receive the emotional support they need.

As an Australian, don't these guns need to be locked up in a safe place only to be used for the activities you mentioned? the gun laws over there are just horrendous!... I don't know how it's even possible that there is not more outcry against owning guns!

Thank you for also mentioning no guns on school property. I’m a teacher. I know parents ignore this rule and it makes me uncomfortable. Yes the guy who took the kid out did a heroic thing BUT it’s also true that he also broke the law bringing his weapon onto the property. Two things are true at once. 😭

You don't need a license to carry in Oregon you do have to have a CHL though if you want to carry concealed.
