Think they needed more time to process. Did they know you were dating while husband was still technically alive?

If all your children hate him, then you are the A, no way all of them will hate him for no reason. And the way she talked about the father, just for that, I would be po at the mom.

I think it might be the timing of the start of the dating. Like she was literally waiting for him to die. Been kinda in the same situation

They didn’t have time to process their dads death. It’s like their mum didn’t care about their dad. I appreciate the mums position but I can guarantee this is why. My dad died when I was a kid and mum met someone within the year. I had been struggling with my dad’s death so someone new coming in was too much. No one back then understood I think they thought kids had no opinion on things and shouldn’t still be grieving. In hindsight I needed help to deal with my grief

Kids can’t accept someone replacing their father period. I lost my husband 16 years ago and didn’t date for four years and I kinda jumped into a relationship with a man that was basically the opposite of their father. They don’t really like him but he makes me happy most of the time. They have only ever seen mom with dad and no one else can ever fill his shoes. It takes time and effort and probably feel like mom didn’t care about dad anymore.

my mum had her new bf 8 weeks after my dad died then married him a year later. I had no choice but I was incredibly lucky, my step dad is amazing

I’m wondering when she says she started dating right away how right is right away. And how long after he passed did she meet this man. They may never like him.

Idk, yeah they're not nice for wanting to control(?) her life. But also they are still grieving, from their perspective their mother couldn't wait a month to start "looking for a replacement" cause that's literally how it would feel. She isn't the asshole but maybe a bit of empathy towards her children would be nice, the fact that she has already grieved her first husband doesn't mean she can't accompany her children through the process.

As an adult child whose father remarried two years after mom died I can honestly say that it is initially hard to accept that your parent has found someone else. But I saw how happy he was and knew he deserved every minute of it. The truth of the matter is that accepting the remarriage felt like I was letting go of my mother. It could be the same for these children but they need to understand their mom deserves to live her life and be happy

No. No you are not. I was suddenly widowed at 46. My kids were 20 and 22. Our marriage had been pretty sketchy for many years already, and the kids obviously knew that. I met a guy very shortly after their dad’s death, like 4 months after. They were at first not pleased at all. Then they both noticed that I was happy, not biting my nails, laughing, clearly enjoying life, and they re-evaluated the mom they knew with their dad, and the mom they saw in front of them. Fourteen years later they both love him very much, and are happy to see me happy.
