I practically pay my stepdaughter to watch our grandbaby. I bribe them with home-cooked meals and Costco shopping spree every time they need me to come babysit. In fact, I am on my way home right now from babysitting so they could have a date night. While they don't pay me to watch my granddaughter, they are so very appreciative and are always very generous at the holidays to give us gift cards and things they know we won't refuse for holidays and birthdays.

I think that it really depends on the financial resources of the families. There are some grandmas that would need to be working to earn money if they didn’t watch the kids. Paying grandma would likely still be less than daycare (esp for multiples) and more consistent care

Society didn’t substantially advance until people lived long enough to watch their grandchildren, such that their children could accomplish new and wonderful things. I can’t imagine charging to watch my grandchildren, but let’s consider if the grandparents needed to work and they weren’t able to work because they were watching the grandchildren. I would hope there would be some kind of an arrangement just saying. 😎

I think it’s nice if you can. It also falls under you do what you can and you help each other. It might be a way they are helping the grandparent. Not all can afford to live like this anymore.

Im happy I get the opportunity to really know my grandchildren. I know which kind of cup, shirt, binki they would choose. I know what toys are out. I don’t charge bc, like you, I knew I wanted to keep them. I don’t do school though. I draw the line there. I do three days and work 2 from home. Love it.

I would never charge to watch my grandbabies. I love the time with them. I am happy to help my daughter and son in law. And I know they are safe with me.

My Mom is no longer with us but if she was I know she wouldn't charge me to watch her Grandson. She would happily watch him for free. However, if she was watching him and Money was tight for her I would definitely pay her to watch him even if she told me I didn't have to.
