@browneyedgurl801: Jerry McCann knew families in his neighborhood were struggling to afford days out for their children. So he decided to organize one himself. The 39-year-old father of seven lives in Little Hulton, Salford, an area he says doesn't always offer young people much to do. As the summer holidays came to an end, Jerry began organizing a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for local children between the ages of 10 and 16. The response was huge. Soon, 50 kids were signed up. Some had never even been to Blackpool before, despite the seaside town being only around 40 miles away. Jerry deliberately avoided means-testing families or asking them to prove they couldn't afford the trip. He didn't want children or parents to feel embarrassed about their circumstances. And he didn't pull it off alone. People and businesses in the community stepped forward to help. A local garage covered the cost of the coach, while Tesco provided food for packed lunches. Then the group headed to Blackpool. Jerry said children who had started the day as strangers were soon making friends, with older kids encouraging younger ones to brave the rides. For him, the trip was also about changing how people viewed Little Hulton and giving local children something positive to remember. After seeing how successful the day was, Jerry said he hoped to organize even more community activities in the future. Fifty kids got their day out. And an entire neighborhood helped make it happen. 💛
