On Sunday, October 18, 2026, around 7:30 am, our neighbors in District 6 witnessed an ICE enforcement operation near Bayport Street, close to Christ Cathedral. Video shows ICE agents forcibly removing a man from his vehicle and taking him from the scene in an unmarked SUV. Our neighborhoods have faced several raids since June 2025. This morning’s events raise alarm about the increased disregard federal law enforcement has shown for our community during their most recent surge. It's particularly heinous that this operation took place so close to our sacred Christ Cathedral, at a time when many of our neighbors are traveling to and from Mass. Online posts have also alleged that one of our neighbors, as well as a community observer, may have suffered injuries at the hands of ICE during the course of this morning’s events. I am asking our city to look into the circumstances surrounding this morning’s events and allegations that ICE agents may have injured members of the public in the process of conducting this operation. The law is clear: observing and documenting federal agents in a public setting is a constitutionally protected activity. Our community deserves transparency about the federal operations taking place in our own backyards. All Garden Grove residents should feel safe in their communities. ALL of our community has a right to attend their house of worship without fear. We will not be intimidated or deterred. Un video muestra a agentes de ICE sacando a la fuerza a un hombre de su vehículo y llevándoselo del lugar en una camioneta sin distintivos. Nuestros vecindarios han enfrentado varias redadas desde junio de 2025. Los sucesos de esta mañana encienden las alarmas ante el creciente desprecio que las fuerzas federales han mostrado hacia nuestra comunidad durante esta oleada reciente de operaciones. Resulta especialmente atroz que esta operación haya tenido lugar tan cerca de nuestra sagrada Catedral de Cristo, en un momento en que muchos de nuestros vecinos se dirigían a misa o regresaban de ella. Asimismo, han surgido denuncias en línea que sugieren que uno de nuestros vecinos, así como una persona que observaba la redada, podrían haber sufrido lesiones a manos de ICE durante los hechos ocurridos esta mañana. Solicité a nuestra ciudad que investigue las circunstancias que rodearon los sucesos de esta mañana, así como las denuncias de que agentes de ICE podrían haber herido a miembros de la comunidad durante esta operación.
