@drlesliedobson: We need to take a moment to appreciate Lady Gaga!! Not just for her incredible talent, but for the way she continues to use her platform to advocate for survivors, mental health awareness, and those who don’t have a voice. As a forensic psychologist, I especially appreciate her willingness to speak openly about trauma and the very REAL impact it has on the brain. Survivors don’t always respond the way society expects them to, and that does NOT make their experiences any less valid. Like Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga could have simply enjoyed her fame and fortune. Instead, she’s chosen to use her influence to make a difference. THAT is what using your platform for good looks like. And she deserves every bit of recognition for it.

Dr. Leslie. I have been a ball busting girl/lady/woman….what have you from the time I was a little gal. I am a mouthpiece. I have two daughters who are 9 and 10. I have always been crazy for my girls. I forgot that I was always like this until one of my friends (who was SA’d what we were younger). She just sent me this. I guess have….and always will be a hard core girls girl.

As a survivor myself, it was hard to determine if my memory of my assault was real or fake due to the fact that when I remember my assault, it plays back to me kind of like a movie. In the sense that I can see the memory from like a “camera angle “that’s above me. And when I think about that, I’m like that’s really a godsend Because how horrible if my memory was just me looking up at my assaulter? Thank God, our brains work, how they do.
