I live IN Wainwright. nothing confirmed yet but this is whats talk around town; training exercises/fire got out of hand and swept through their tent camp. Amo and other explosives were there and there was a big explosion. mixed with the huge 100km/hr winds that picked up this afternoon. the hospital is overrun- the high-school gym is being used for overflow of injured. many flights going out from our tiny tiny airport to city's close by with bigger hospitals. praying for all our community members and the military, first responders, Dr's, nurses and paramedics!!!!!!!

Live fire training hit a live gas well, massive explosion(s) levelled buildings, high winds carried fire spread quickly

I read that some withness says that it was an exercice and a munition had hit a propane well, wich cause an explosion AND explosions at every house/building that were linked with the lines… 😳

this is obviously NOT confirmed but I had read they were doing training with fire and the fire somehow hit a gas line and exploded. We've had crazy winds here today in AB so maybe that played a part.

My son, who is finishing basic training, was scheduled to be transferred to CFB Wainwright for further training two weeks ago. He was delayed by a month and is still in Quebec. I have spent the evening thinking about the parents waiting for phone calls and am very grateful that I’m not one of them. My heart is aching beyond words.

berta here. no official statement has been released yet. cfb Wainwright is a well known training base and rumor has it that there was an explosion resulting in a fire. winds here are insane today so we can assume the containment process is going to be extremely difficult. praying for all those involved.

It’s a training area fire that got well out of control, anything more is speculation

@Firedevilfrizz🇨🇦♒️: as of now, they have the fire held and the town is safe- but anyone looking for information regarding loved ones, please contact the Public Affairs Office at 819-531-8618. as of now that's all us as residents know. the base residents that are families living there, they've evacuated or moved them for now. Everyone in town is coming together amazingly
