The show makes it pretty clear, you’re nothing if you don’t have a witch on your team. We saw it over and over again, until they put all the powers in one. And still being a witch is the most powerful. So yes, Bonnie had to go through it because she mattered that much

Elena isn’t my favorite and I do find her slightly annoying but I never understood the “Elena was selfish, she didn’t cared about her friends” when the whole show proves differently tbh part of the reason I find her annoying is bc she’s always putting herself in danger to save her friends, I wanted to see her more selfish and choose herself sometimes

Everyone blames a literal teenage girl who was thrown into this life of magic and vampires for not being perfect but won’t blame grown men who have been alive for hundreds and thousands of years who are selfish and use the other characters for their own gain. They blame Elena for daggering Rebekah when she was a huge threat but not Klaus for doing the same thing for decades because he was upset
