Sometimes substances are used to manipulate, threaten, incapacitate, or control another person. Sometimes the abuse involves forced consumption or substances administered without knowledge or consent. And sometimes the survivor is left carrying shame for something someone else did to them. Chemical coercion is abuse. Substance use does not erase victimization.
