Conservatism is the most misunderstood ideology in the country & Republicans are responsible for it. For the last 25 years, Republicans have basically run two different brands. For a while, you had the neoconservatives. The Bush & Cheney types. Bush took us into Iraq and Afghanistan, slapped tariffs on foreign steel, and created the biggest new entitlement since LBJ. And the debt nearly doubled under his watch. Now you have the populists. Trump ran against the Bush era, then gave us tariffs of his own, some of the biggest spending bills in American history, & another war in the Middle East. And trillions more added to the debt. Superficially, they look and sound different… but on substance, they're actually a lot alike… & they're both lackluster examples of conservatism at best. So what is conservatism supposed to conserve? Start with John Locke. He argued that every person is born with natural rights to life, liberty, and property, & that government exists to protect them. Jefferson carried that idea into the Declaration of Independence. Then you have Edmund Burke. He warned that institutions built over generations hold wisdom. America's genius was fusing Lock & Burke. Locke's rights, protected by Burke's respect for institutions. That's what American conservatism conserves. The Constitution, limited government, free markets, and the rights of the individual. The classical liberal values that gave the world the first successful example self governance & the longest lasting constitution the world has ever seen. Madison designed America around these ideas,

The classical liberal values that gave the world the first successful example self governance & the longest lasting constitution the world has ever seen. Madison designed America around these ideas, "If men were angels, no government would be necessary." Government reflects human nature. The founders built institutions to bring out our best and restrain our worst. That design carried us. But prosperity has made us comfortable. And that comfort has made us soft. We handed power to agencies, responsibility to Washington, & accountability to anyone other than ourselves. American conservatism was built to conserve the freest country in history. Now it's our job to conserve it again. __ #conservative #republican #conservatism #america #politics
