If you live in Reading, PA or Berks County, you might recognize Taz, the beautiful blue-and-gold macaw who got some attention for riding on the sunroof of his owner Juan’s car! We invited Taz and Juan to visit our new office, answer some of the questions we’ve all been wondering, and share their story. Taz recently celebrated his 25th birthday and was born right here in Pennsylvania. Juan has owned Taz since Taz was about 10 months old, so they’ve been best friends for a long time! Blue-and-gold macaws can live for 60+ years with the proper care. Taz is extremely well cared for and deeply loved by Juan, who makes sure his feathered companion is happy and healthy. Over the years, Taz has become a beloved member of the Reading community, bringing smiles to people of all ages and walks of life. You’ve probably spotted him at events, restaurants, stores, or cruising through the city! Juan shared how incredibly kind and welcoming the Reading community has been to both of them, and it’s clear that the love goes both ways. And yes, he really does love riding on the car and feeling the breeze! Taz only rides at speeds and weather conditions he can safely handle and is carefully monitored throughout each ride. Some of his favorite foods include mangoes, grapes, peanut butter, and the occasional pancake for a special treat. Taz and Juan’s story is a reminder of how one very special bird can bring an entire community together. Thank you both for stopping by and sharing your story with us! Have you met Taz or spotted him around Reading & Berks County? Share your Taz stories in the comments! @JuanGFX #readingpa #berkscounty #macaw #tazthemacaw #blueandgoldmacaw
