The iconic theme song "C'mon, Get Happy" from The Partridge Family evolved from an earlier first-season theme and became a defining pop-culture anthem of the 1970s. Origin and the First Season ("When We're Singin'") First Season Theme: During season one (1970–1971), the show used a theme song called "When We're Singin'" (composed by Wes Farrell and Diane Hildebrand), which explained the plot and how the family band formed. The Pilot Episode: The very first episode actually used a different song called "Together (Havin' a Ball)" instead of the standard theme. Evolution to "C'mon, Get Happy" New Lyrics: Starting in season two, the producers kept the same musical melody of "When We're Singin'" but replaced the lyrics with a new, upbeat version written by Danny Janssen, titled "C'mon, Get Happy" (composed by Wes Farrell). Shift in Focus: While the original theme explained the backstory of a widowed mother and her kids starting a band, the new version dropped the expository plot points and focused purely on joy, togetherness, and feel-good energy ("Hello world, hear the song that we're singing... c'mon, get happy!"). Vocals: The track features lead vocals by teen idol David Cassidy, backed by studio session singers (the Ron Hicklin Singers) and co-star Shirley Jones. Release History Not a Standalone Single: "C'mon, Get Happy" was heavily broadcast every week as the television intro and outro, though it was not initially released as a commercial standalone single during the show's prime. Later Albums: It was later included on compilation albums, such as Come On Get Happy!: The Very Best of The Partridge Family (released in May 2005) and Arista's 1989 Greatest Hits collection. Danny Bonaduce's Memoir: Danny Bonaduce (who played Danny Partridge) ironically titled his 1994 tell-all autobiography C'mon, Get Happy.
