@newsnexussa: A car salesman was among motorists allegedly arrested for drunk driving by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in Estcourt last night. The salesman reportedly pleaded with officers and offered to sell them 500 breathalysers at discounted prices. Ella was diagnosed with VACTERL Association found in about 1 per 10,000 to 40,000 births. VACTERL is an acronym that stands for congenital abnormalities found in areas of the body including the vertebrae, anus, heart, trachea, esophagus, kidney (renal) and limbs. Out of 7 congenital abnormalities Ella has 5 She was born with Spinal deformities, associated with her sacral dimple causing a tethered cord. Ella was born with an imperforate anus meaning she was born with out an opening for exit for stool. She has a functional stoma and mucus fistula. She has a heart murmur, Pulmonary artery stenosis is a heart defect that causes a narrowing of the pulmonary artery but it is mild, It is causing her heart to be enlarged. Ella was diagnosed with CKD chronic kidney disease, her kidney Creatinine levels are high. But not high enough to start dialysis yet. There is medicine to slow this process down but once she starts dialysis she will be put on a transplant list. Her kidneys did not form completely making them extra small and connected causing them to be horseshoe kidneys and hypoplastic. She has been diagnosed with bilateral hydroureter and grade 1 left hydronephrosis meaning her kidneys are holding urine and could cause infections. Her feet are Syndactyly meaning some toes are formed together, one her left foot she has 3 bones 4 toes but two are fused. On her right she has 4 bones 5 toes but two are fused. Talipes equinovarus of both lower extremities also known as clubbed foot. She also has been diagnosed with Colovesical fistulae meaning her colon, uterus and bladder are connected. Also has been diagnosed with Congenital malformation of genital organs meaning duplication of the uterus, cervix and upper vagina. She also had to under go two surgeries and 4 procedures for laryngomalacia & type 1 laryngeal Cleft. She was aspirating while eating into her lungs. She is now on a NG tube. (And waiting possible G-tube) Ella will under go almost 20 or more surgeries, that include ostomy, anal, reconstructive organs, bladder, colon, uterus, orthopedic, kidneys and spine. This is such a rare condition and there is so much more to learn about it. No specific genetic or chromosome problem has been identified with VACTERL association.
