I was a crusher operator at one point. I had a forman who refused to buy rubber disk rollers because theyre more expensive than metal can rollers. And this was literally what he told me I had to to when mud would build up on the return rollers. And one day, I hammered rollers for 30 minutes straight because the mud was so bad. My grip got so tired and weak, lost hold of the hammer, it bounced off the roller and hit me in the face. I shut the whole plant down. Said fuck that, no more

the amount of time I have done this, or use a shovel and hold it up against the roller is ridiculous. ya ik I shouldn't, but I am not shutting down to clear a roller.

i have 17 years experience in crushing .i did this when i was younger and stupid on a return roller like that under the primary crusher. Hammer caught in the mud arm followed and got stock in there for around 15min. half of my shoulder is gone burnt 3degree with friction elbow right to the bone . lots of surgery 3 years of work.

In 1999 a young man lost his life doing something like that at open pit mine in Arizona that’s why there are MSHA rules to live by written in blood cause of those who’s shift was never completed……….

My dad had his arm sucked up to his shoulder doing this job, he was walking along on top of the metal bars beside the belt. Thankfully a coworker noticed and hit the emergency stop before it tore his arm off but it chewed the few layers of clothing and most of his skin off and had to have his arm bandaged up for a while
