🚨 Stop stretching your ankle until you see this Stretching isn’t the answer if the joint itself isn’t doing its job. As a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist physical therapist, here are 4 manual techniques I use to restore REAL foot + ankle motion 👇 1️⃣ Anterior → Posterior Talocrural Glide (Towel assist to take pressure off your hands) 👉 What I’m doing: Stabilizing the tibia while driving the talus posteriorly ‼️Why it matters: Improves dorsiflexion so you can actually squat, lunge, and descend stairs without compensation 2️⃣ Calcaneal Scoop 🦶 👉 What I’m doing: Gripping under the heel and creating a subtle traction + glide ‼️Why it matters: Restores rearfoot mobility → better shock absorption and smoother gait 3️⃣ Metatarsal Mobilizations 👉 What I’m doing: Individually mobilizing the forefoot joints ‼️Why it matters: Improves foot adaptability, push-off, and load distribution 4️⃣ Distal Tib-Fib Joint Mobilization 👉 What I’m doing: Mobilizing the fibula relative to the tibia ‼️Why it matters: Allows proper ankle mechanics during dorsiflexion ⚠️ But let’s be clear… Manual therapy is the window NOT the solution If you don’t follow this up with progressive loading…you’re just borrowing motion, not owning it! 🧠 Clinical takeaway: Use your hands to create opportunity Use exercise to make it stick Save this for your next ankle eval 🔖
