Dorothy :
This is just something I imagined.
It’s like a story about abuse and control within a family. A deeply toxic family where the mother is a victim of the father’s abuse. She may be a sexual assault victim, or perhaps the father has imprisoned her in his life, keeping her by his side forever and isolating her from the outside world.
In doing so, the father destroys the mother’s life, forcing her into his selfish, twisted version of love.
And then, you are born out of that abuse. Your very existence becomes the chain that binds your mother to him forever. Your birth becomes the worst thing that has ever happened to her.
Some SA victims struggle with self-hatred and may even feel repulsed by the children they have with their abusers, because those children are living reminders of the people who violated them. And so, naturally, you cannot escape being hated, resented, and neglected by your own mother.
The cruel irony of this family is that you look so much like him, making it even harder for her to love you as a mother should.
Your mother is powerless against your father, and now she takes out all her anger and resentment on you. You, a child who, in her eyes, should never have been born. A child with an empty heart, starved of maternal love. A child who resembles all too much the very man who destroyed her life.
Because you are his child, because your existence forces her to remember the man who ruined her life and the suffering she has endured because of him, being allowed to exist at all is a privilege she has granted you, whether you ever wanted it or not.
This is something I imagined, and I am not romanticizing it in any way. It is horrifying to think that such tragedies can repeat themselves across generations
To anyone who has lived through something similar, I’m sending you a hug from afar🫂
