Benjamin Franklin on money: "Remember that time is money." He wrote it in 1748, in a short letter of advice signed only "An old Tradesman". His example: a man who can earn 10 shillings a day goes out, or sits idle, for half of that day and spends only sixpence. Franklin says the sixpence is not the only cost: "he has really spent, or rather thrown away, 5s. besides." The same letter says credit is money too, and that your creditor is listening: "The sound of your hammer at five in the morning or nine at night, heard by a creditor, makes him easy six months longer."
