@knowledgeofselfhistory: In 1984, Paula Wright made history by becoming the first Black woman to own a McDonald’s franchise in New England, marking a significant milestone in a business world where Black women were still severely underrepresented in major corporate franchise ownership. What began with a single restaurant would eventually grow into a remarkable business journey spanning nearly four decades. Wright continued expanding her business interests over the years, building a substantial portfolio of McDonald’s restaurants across the region. From that first location, she eventually grew her holdings to 16 restaurant locations, transforming an individual opportunity into a long-term business enterprise. Her achievement represented more than the ownership of a successful restaurant. At a time when access to major franchise opportunities was far less common for Black entrepreneurs, Wright’s success demonstrated what could happen when determination, business leadership, and long-term vision came together. Her journey became part of the broader history of Black entrepreneurship in the United States and a notable chapter in the growth of Black corporate ownership in New England. Nearly four decades after opening her first location, Paula Wright’s story remains a reminder that breaking a barrier is only the beginning. The greater achievement can be building something that lasts, expands, and creates a legacy far beyond the first opportunity. #fyp #blacktiktokcommunity #mcdonalds #foryoupage #History
