Hi! Paleoanthropogist here! So this is slightly misleading. The ice age wasn’t necessarily dangerous, but lack of resources definitely left us in a bottleneck population situation. Approximately 900k years ago our population got down to about 1,357. This was not just Homo sapiens, they were other hominins involved here, and it stayed that way for about 117,000 ish years. We figured our ish out and started growing in pop again during the ice age. It’s why the human species has less variation than the average chimpanzee around the world.
