There comes a moment in life when you begin to recognize the difference between people who genuinely love you and people who simply love what you do for them. That's a painful question when the people involved are those you've loved, trusted, or considered family. But I'm learning something. Being a good person doesn't mean allowing yourself to be used. Having a generous heart doesn't mean you owe everyone unlimited access to it. And loving someone doesn't mean you must continually sacrifice your own peace just to keep them comfortable. Relationships aren't supposed to be measured dollar for dollar, favor for favor, or minute for minute. There will always be seasons when one person needs more than the other. But there should be gratitude. Consideration. Reciprocity. And above all, genuine care. Because the people who truly value you will care about what you're carrying, not just what you can carry for them. So I'm learning to step away quietly. Not out of anger. Not to punish anyone. But because I deserve relationships where my presence matters more than my usefulness. I can still wish people well. I can still love them from a distance. I can still remember the good without continuing to sacrifice myself for something that only survives because I keep giving. Sometimes letting go isn't about losing people.
