“Aren’t you afraid he will attack you one day?” We get asked this a lot, and the answer is absolutely not. ❤️ Of course we never forget that Zeus is a wild animal, but cheetahs are very different from lions, leopards or tigers. They’re built for speed rather than confrontation and, in the wild, they generally choose to avoid people rather than challenge them. Attacks on humans are extremely rare. That doesn’t mean a cheetah couldn’t hurt somebody, particularly if frightened, cornered or threatened, but aggression towards humans simply isn’t typical cheetah behaviour. There are actually countless examples of wild cheetahs being incredibly relaxed around safari vehicles, sometimes climbing onto them or lying beside them. They don’t roar like the true big cats either. They purr, and even their semi-retractable claws are designed more for traction while running than for fighting. When Zeus was a young, powerful cheetah, of course he was physically capable of hurting somebody if he genuinely believed they were a threat. But he has spent his life in human care and knows and trusts his caregivers completely. Now, at 15, he is also a very elderly cheetah and nowhere near as strong as he once was. So do we respect what he is? Absolutely. Are we frightened of him? Not for a second. We trust our old boy implicitly. ❤️🐆 (Forgive the typos in the captions… noticed too late 🫣) #ZeusTheCheetah #Cheetah #WildlifeSanctuary
