Filming tiny lapwing chicks 🐣🌿🪶 Lapwings are ground nesting birds and when the chicks hatch they weigh around 15grams! But just a few hours after hatching they are able to run and forage on their own! Lapwing chicks are ‘precocial’, which is where birds hatch with thick feather down covering their tiny bodies and are able to walk, run and feed themselves pretty much straight away! Whereas chicks like bluetits are called ‘altricial’, where they hatch with no feathers and are reliant on their parents for everything for the first few weeks! I was testing out the new @Craghoppers NosiLife range, which has built-in insect repellent. I do 90% of my wildlife filming at dawn and dusk as this is when wildlife is most active, which is where NosiLife items come into play! They ward off any biting insects using a renewable plant-based treatment made from Eucalyptus Citriodora oil! 💪 I wore the Adeena leggings in olive green and the Adventure long sleeved shirt underneath my Caldbeck jacket - perfect!  I was very lucky on my filming trip to Elmley Nature reserve! If you go out over the next few weeks to capture spring wildlife, here are some tips: ⏰ Wake up at least an hour before dawn and get out to the spot you want to film in while it’s still dark. Dawn is one of the busiest times of the day for wildlife, but if you are trying to get to a spot to film when the sun starts to come up, you are more likely to scare it, so best to get into position under the cover of darkness! 👀 Try, if you can, to be at eye level with the species you’re filming/photographing. This isn’t always possible, but being at eye level rather than looking up or down towards the species makes the shots way better!   📵 Switch your phone onto aeroplane mode or completely off. I always put mine on aeroplane mode as I use it to the take videos – but the last thing you want is your phone buzzing or beeping when wildlife is around! Thank you to Craghoppers for my new gear and I hope you are all going to have your own spring wildlife adventures over the next month, as it is the best time of the year! 🐣🌿 #ad #mycraghoppers #wildlife #nosilife #wildlifephotography #nature #hannahstitfall #spring #babybirds
