One of Dallas’ most popular museums is about to get a $185 MILLION transformation, and some of the new attractions sound pretty incredible. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science just unveiled plans for a massive expansion called Curiosity Unbound, which will transform approximately four acres of its downtown Dallas property into an interactive outdoor science destination. And we’re not talking about a few additional exhibits. The project will add approximately 60,000 square feet of outdoor science experiences, effectively doubling the museum’s exhibition space. Some of the planned attractions include: * A fire tornado * A lightning and thunder pavilion * Geysers and a giant water vortex * An interactive mist maze * A paleontology garden * A pollinator habitat The expansion will also include a new parking garage, along with improvements to the museum’s lobby, dining areas, event spaces and facilities used by school groups. And the financial commitment is significant. The entire campaign is expected to cost $185 million, with the museum reporting that approximately $135 million has already been raised. That leaves roughly $50 million still needed to fully fund the project. But here’s why this matters beyond simply making the museum bigger. The Perot already welcomes approximately 1 million visitors annually, and museum officials estimate the expansion could attract an additional 400,000 visitors every year. That’s a potentially significant boost for downtown Dallas tourism, nearby businesses and families looking for educational activities. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the expanded campus targeting an opening in late 2028. The Perot isn’t just adding more museum space. It’s turning a huge portion of its property into an outdoor science destination unlike anything it currently offers. And personally, a fire tornado and giant water vortex sound like exhibits worth checking out. Which new attraction would you be most excited to experience? #DallasTX #PerotMuseum #DowntownDallas #DFWDevelopment #DevelopingDFW
