In January there was nothing I wanted more than to be ✨skinny✨. I spent September–December in a calorie deficit, managing to lose 13lbs which looked great on me, but the reality is it was muscle AND fat that I lost. I was so pressed to be skinny I continued, I even bragged about not crashing out on Thanksgiving, I was eating “healthy.” I made it to what I thought was my goal weight and still wasn’t satisfied. I felt weaker, fatigued, my attitude was worse than usual one 😂… on top of stress and health issues that pushed me toward a mostly anti-inflammatory diet. Throughout this, my coaches were always transparent — “Jo, you can lift heavier.” “Jo, we’re increasing your calories.” Honestly, it was on me to actually listen, which I clearly have a hard time doing. I’m not “skinny” and I’m not at my old “goal weight.” But I do feel better, my energy levels are increasing, my sleep has improved.. the attitude, still being worked out as per my man. Am I ungrateful? Maybe. It’s easy for others to look at a body and see their goal, just as easily as I looked at a number on a scale and thought that was mine — only to get there and want something else entirely. The truth is our bodies are constantly changing, and muscle and fat show up differently on everyone. Ive shifted my attention to caring less and less about the aesthetic and more about function. My coaches have always emphasized why muscle matters beyond how it looks.. for metabolic health, for insulin sensitivity, for keeping visceral fat in check. So right now, my actual goal is to get stronger and build muscle, even if that means carrying a little more fat and feeling uncomfortable in my body for a while. Which in reality is more worth It even if my feelings say otherwise. Cheers to not chasing skinny. And if you know me and you see me chasing It again trip me up! #bodypositivity #bodyrecomposition #FitTok
