I think the number one thing Gen z cares about is that there is “point” to their work. I talk to them every day and if they start to feel like “this is dumb, there is no purpose” we lose them. Just my 2 cents!

we watched boomers succeed and pull up the ladder behind them, gen X and millennials burn out, and decided that the current path to "you will own nothing and be happy" is not the road for us. there has to be a better way and we are going to find it!

I think a lot of what it is for me, as an Elder Gen Z, is I’ve seen my millennial siblings do the “ passive income” thing. I’ve seen them try multiple things, pursue multiple opportunities, and I realize that the majority of what they do, basically all of it, is not passive like people originally described it to be. It’s not something that doesn’t own thing and runs on its own most of the time, and you have to have people managing it, even if it does take less time than some other ways of making income. But then they find that they can’t make time to the extra stuff that they need to do for all of these incomes that are supposed to be passive (but I really just less work overall than their full-time) AND not slack at their full-time jobs, and they just recently started having children, so their parenting now. This is just my experience, but very little things can be entirely “passive” unless you have the money to delegate tasks to other people so that you don’t have to put any time into it. Because my siblings in addition to working over 40 hours a week each have to dedicate at minimum 30 hours or more a week to their smaller businesses that we’re supposed to be what gave them financial freedom and time freedom.

half of gen z are still in school, its 1997-2012, youngest are 14, oldest are 29. i would say really only the oldest few years are able to be in a position to do stuff like that, rest are just in their first job out of college, still in college or in high school
