Here’s why some offshore workers actually hope a storm delays their helicopter home. 🌊⛈️💰 Sounds completely backwards, right? You’ve just finished your hitch, you're ready to fly home, and then a massive storm rolls in. The helicopters can't operate safely… So you're stuck offshore. Normally, you'd think that's terrible news. But here's where things can get interesting. Depending on your employer and employment agreement, being held offshore beyond your scheduled rotation can trigger additional or over-cycle pay. That means those extra days you're stuck on the rig could come with additional compensation on top of your normal arrangement. And while the weather is bad, offshore operations may be reduced or suspended depending on the conditions and the installation's procedures. You're still onboard. You're still eating your meals. You're still sleeping in your accommodation. And depending on the facility, you may still have access to things like the gym, recreation areas, games rooms, or other onboard amenities. So instead of thinking, “I can't believe I'm stuck here,” some workers might be thinking… “Well… at least I'm getting paid for it.” 😂 But don't get this twisted — not every offshore worker automatically gets extra storm pay, and you shouldn't choose a job expecting a storm bonus. Your pay, over-cycle arrangements, overtime, and weather-related compensation all depend on your employer, contract, location, and rotation. And while some offshore careers can reach six figures, $150K or $200K isn't guaranteed — those numbers are heavily dependent on the role and experience. So here's the question: Would you actually be happy if a storm delayed your flight home if you knew you were getting paid extra? Let me know in the comments. Follow this page, like this video, and if you're serious about getting into offshore work, check the link in our bio for the complete step-by-step guide.
