@autismresources7: 🧠🐟 CAN OMEGA-3 HELP CHILDREN WITH AUTISM? SCIENTISTS FOUND PROMISING RESULTS! A randomized, double-blind clinical trial published in Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (2021) investigated whether omega-3 fatty acids could improve certain behavioral and communication difficulties in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). 🔬 WHAT DID THE STUDY FIND? Researchers studied 54 children with autism over 8 weeks. 👧👦 28 children received 1,000 mg of omega-3 daily. 💊 26 children received a placebo. 📊 AFTER 8 WEEKS, THE OMEGA-3 GROUP SHOWED: ✅ Improvements in social communication scores. ✅ Reductions in repetitive behavior scores. ✅ Improvements in overall autism-related symptom scores. ⚠️ However, researchers found no statistically significant improvement in the separate social interaction subscale. 💡 WHY IS OMEGA-3 IMPORTANT? Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA and EPA, play important roles in brain development, nerve cell function, and inflammation regulation. 🐟 Natural sources include salmon, sardines, trout, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds. Plant sources primarily provide ALA, a different form of omega-3. ❤️ IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS: This was a small, short-term study. Although the results were encouraging, larger studies have produced mixed findings, and omega-3 supplements are not established treatments for autism-related behaviors. Omega-3 is NOT a cure for autism. Always consult your child’s healthcare provider before starting supplements, especially at higher doses. 📚 READ THE ORIGINAL RESEARCH: 🔗 National Library of Medicine — Full Study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10227477/ 🔗 PubMed Central Study ID: PMC10227477 💙 Follow Empowered Wings Resources & SPED for evidence-based autism research, family resources, and educational information! #AutismResearch #Omega3 #AutismAwareness #AutismParenting #AutismResources
