@rulelikepatrick: Ethiopia has more than 120 million people. It is one of the oldest civilisations on earth, and it is the most populous landlocked country in the world. It held a coastline within living memory, until 1993, and its ancient kingdom of Aksum traded across the Red Sea through the port of Adulis long before any modern border was drawn. A nation that size, with that history, has to pay a neighbour for every container it brings home. That situation does not sit right with us, and we won't pretend it does. Supporting Ethiopia's ambition does not mean supporting an attack on Eritrea. Eritrea is a sovereign nation. Its people fought for 30 years for their independence, and their borders deserve respect. We do not support any invasion, any war, or any African blood spilled over a port. What we support is the table. Let there be talks and negotiations: port deals, shared corridors, joint investment, long-term leases, whatever both peoples can agree on as equals. That could happen with Eritrea, with Djibouti, with Somalia, or with all of them. The Horn of Africa has buried enough of its children. The sea can be shared without anyone else losing their home.
