@empoweredjourneydoula: ✨ Episode 2 of Things I'd Want You to Know Before Giving Birth in a Hospital! After supporting hundreds of births as a labor nurse and doula, I can tell you that one of the biggest questions first time moms have is WHEN they're actually supposed to head to the hospital. And I get it! Nobody wants to show up too early and get sent home, but you also don't want to wait so long that you're having your baby in the car! So today we're talking about when to head to the hospital once labor starts. Here's what I really want you to take away from this episode... You don't have to wait until your contractions perfectly follow the 5-1-1 rule to head to the hospital. There are other things I'd want you to think about, too. A few things I'd recommend doing BEFORE labor starts: 1. Talk to your provider. Ask when they typically recommend heading to the hospital and whether there's anything about your pregnancy that would mean coming in sooner. 2. Think about your drive. How far away is your hospital? Will you be dealing with traffic, snow, or icy roads? 3. Make a coping plan for the car. Think about how you'll handle contractions when you can't get up and move around. 4. Know when to call. Save your provider's and labor and delivery unit's phone numbers now.
