I was a little of both. My grandaddy was a Marine Paratrooper that ended up as a machine gunner on Iwo Jima. Not knowing what else to do out of high school, I said “fuck it, sounds cool” & did seven years on active duty.

I was working cattle and concrete living with a buddy. when winter rolled around they didnt have any work for me. so omw back to my parents place, saw the recruiting office. went "why not" went in shortly before closing said im not here to sign anything. and walked out a poolee lmao

my friend had an uber show up going to the recruiting office he said you can come, so either that or I walk an hour and a half home so sure ill spend a few hours, one appointment yeah fuck it, did 4 years 5/10 not the best experience.
