🚨 Sergio Ramos on calls for Arda Guler to be sent off following his altercation with a Sevilla player: “I’ve watched the incident several times, and I’m still trying to understand what people expected Arda to do. He’s running forward, the defender is pulling his shirt, and Arda is trying to get away from him. Now people are telling me he should have been sent off. For what? For refusing to be held? Listen, I have a lot of respect for Sevilla. It’s where everything started for me. But I was also a defender for more than 20 years. I know exactly why you grab someone’s shirt. You do it because he’s getting away from you. You’ve lost the advantage, you’re desperate to stop him, and you hope the referee doesn’t see it. I’ve been in those situations myself. I’m not going to sit here and pretend defenders have never done it. But there’s something very funny about committing a foul and then complaining because the player you’re fouling is trying to escape. When somebody grabs you while you’re running at speed, you don’t stop to have a conversation. You use your arms, you try to get his hands off you, you try to stay on your feet. Sometimes there’s contact. That’s football. Now, if Arda deliberately turns around and punches the player, send him off. I have absolutely no problem with that. But show me where he stops thinking about the ball and decides to attack the defender. Because that’s a very different thing from trying to shake somebody off while you’re running. I saw people watching the replay in slow motion, pointing at his arm, saying, ‘Look, he touched his face.’ Yes, and what happened before that? Did the defender invite him for dinner? He was pulling his shirt. You cannot remove the first five seconds of an incident and then act as though the next two seconds happened for no reason. And I know how these things work with Real Madrid. When you’re wearing that shirt, people are waiting for something. A challenge, a reaction, a decision from the referee. If there’s a chance to turn it into a controversy, somebody will take it. I respect Sevilla, and I respect defenders who do everything they can to stop an opponent. But I also understand that an attacker isn’t going to stand there and politely allow himself to be pulled backwards. If I were defending against Arda, my first job would be to stop him fairly. If I couldn’t do that and decided to pull his shirt, I’d know I was taking a risk. I certainly wouldn’t expect him to stand there and make my job easier. People are entitled to discuss whether the contact was excessive. That’s what the referee has to judge. But don’t tell me that every time a defender grabs an attacker, the attacker must keep his arms by his sides and accept it. Otherwise, we might as well tell defenders to forget tackling altogether. Just grab the shirt, wait for the player to react, fall down, and ask for a red card. That’s not defending. That’s asking the referee to finish the job you couldn’t do yourself.” [ This is the source @ChinoUTD ]#realmadrid #sevilla #realmadridfc #creatorsearchinsights #capcut
