@tisheilajustice: What makes the difference between someone who feels like they survived trauma and someone who feels like trauma destroyed them? One factor we do not talk about enough is what happened after the trauma, particularly how people were supported in their darkest moments. People who felt loved, believed, and emotionally supported often had someone helping them carry the weight of what happened. Others were left isolated in their grief, expected to manage emotions that made everyone else uncomfortable, and given toxic positivity when they needed someone willing to sit with them in their pain. They learned to hide their struggles, perform being okay, and grieve alone. The trauma was painful enough, but feeling alone in the aftermath can make the experience even harder to carry. As support people, we have to understand that hope and acknowledging the destruction can exist at the same time. You can believe someone will build a beautiful life again without minimizing what they lost to get there. You can offer encouragement without rushing their healing. You can love someone deeply and still need to examine whether you have the emotional capacity to sit with their pain without trying to make it disappear. Sometimes the most healing thing you can offer someone is the experience of not having to hide how much they are hurting. my foundation of sex was molestation, I was trafficked by my own biological father for 9 years and he never did any jail and because I mask well people say that there is no way I went through all of that, or I get called fast and people also tell me to just get over it. Do you just get over molestation and trafficking

So as the traumatized person who is still struggling years later because there was/is no support system what am I supposed to do? I’m still drowning in grief, it feels impossible to build a support system and it feels impossible to heal without it

I never had support. I couldn’t and still can’t talk about it because I was told I was the issue and too sensitive and to just get over it

But when I was a child and went through most of my trauma, I was obviously told to suppress it, and I stayed strong and became adaptable, and now that I have people and safety I actually do fall apart. Each additional discomfort pulls me down for longer than the one before it. Is this a part of learning to actually feel things? is it a balloon payment on the past coming due? but mostly, is it temporary? 😅 please?

Yup. I wish you were my therapist. I have no parents I’ve got cptsd. My mother was my only safe space she passed when I was 15. My dad was my first abuser. I realize now I had no chance. After my mothers death her sister that raised me emotionally abused me and controlled me. Criticized and talked down to me. I ended up with a narc who smashed a glass in my face. I’ve got a chronic autoimmune condition where I’m losing pigmentation all over my body now from the chronic stress. I have nobody literally. I’ve lost my bestest friend. I’m isolated and just making sense of my life. The belief systems. Just did intake with a trauma therapist. I feel it’s so complex nobody can help me. Not only do I need psychological help bc I feel I’m losing it I need support/community period. I realize now I was never paranoid I was hyper vigilant. So many ppl always told me what and who I am. I realize so much now. I think of others before me in every scenario. Like my mind automatically does it. It’s so much I have to learn and unlearn. It’s hard. I lean and anchor in Christ but it’s so hard I feel if I had that support that comes from family I would’ve never even have had been this way. I realize now the constant fight/flight and the trauma/survival responses I was in. Nobody cared enough to help me it was easier to label me as crazy or slow or paranoid instead. Crazy that I ended up with a leech who did so much worse to me knowing I was already alone and hurting. Imo yes I’ve been surviving but I feel I’ve turned into the statistic. It’s insanity.

It is also very frustrating when “some” people don’t even recognize the support they received while dealing with trauma and then judge others for not overcoming obstacles like they think they were able to do by themselves.

I did both. I was destroyed and am being rebuilt. I wish more people would listen to this because it would’ve been easier to get there.

I have to tell people in bits and bobs about the trauma because some people can't handle it and I don't want to cause second hand trauma. Plus there is a lot. I'm still working on getting a support system but it's really hard.

I am only here today because my system didn’t give up on me, even when I had given up on myself. I can attest, as someone with diagnosed PTSD, a sincere support system makes a massive difference.

I still don’t have support in friends or family. But I have a great therapist and peer support person that helps fill that gap. A lot of the trauma is starting to surface to be worked through instead of suppressed. And I think I’m moving through the stages of grief for the life that could have been. I hate it. lol
