How to train your body not to break when you sneeze wrong. These are Side-to-Side Dumbbell Transfers in the rack. Most people don't train rotation under load and that's a potential reason why when they might sneeze funny or sleep wrong, they can get injured even when they might be extremely strong in normal exercises. This one is an excellent upper back and core exercise for training rotational stability and strength under load. It almost hits like a Zercher but without cradling the weight in your elbows. And key thing... you're NOT necessarily taking up a rack for this! There's not big setup to deal with here. You can EASILY work in with this with somebody doing squats. You're not using a barbell so there's no weight to change. Just bring your dumbbell and do this exercise while they're resting. I'm using a 125 lb dumbbell for this. Take a baseball bat grip on the handle. Keep the dumbbell in close to your body, pulling your shoulders back (which engages the muscles of the upper back) then just go back and forth setting it down fully on the safety rails on each side. This release of loading is important because it forces you to re-engage and re-brace on every rep to ensure good stabilization of the spine. Switch which hand is set higher after a few reps to keep the loading even. Start a bit lighter and really focus on good lifting mechanics... bracing the core, not reaching for the rail with the weight, not rotating without supporting the load. Take your time when doing it. This one is not about speed, it's about load management with controlled movement. --------------- Got a lagging muscle group or exercise? Try this free 3 week specialization program...
