There comes a moment in life when you begin to recognize the difference between people who genuinely love you and people who simply love what you do for them. And sometimes, that realization is heartbreaking. You give your time, your energy, your money, your patience, your understanding, and pieces of yourself that you can never get back. You show up when they need someone. You listen when their world is falling apart. You make sacrifices without being asked. You find ways to give, even when you have very little left for yourself. And somewhere along the way, your generosity becomes an expectation rather than something appreciated. They stop saying thank you. They stop asking how you're doing. They stop noticing the sacrifices you make. But they never stop taking. Perhaps the saddest part isn't everything you've given. It's realizing how little some people are willing to give when it's finally your turn to need someone. And you wonder whether they would still be there if you had nothing left to offer. That's a painful question when the people involved are those you've loved, trusted, or considered family. But I'm learning something. Being a good person doesn't mean allowing yourself to be used. Having a generous heart doesn't mean you owe everyone unlimited access to it. And loving someone doesn't mean you must continually sacrifice your own peace just to keep them comfortable. Relationships aren't supposed to be measured dollar for dollar, favor for favor, or minute for minute. There will always be seasons when one person needs more than the other. But there should be gratitude. Consideration. Reciprocity. And above all, genuine care. Because the people who truly value you will care about what you're carrying, not just what you can carry for them. So I'm learning to step away quietly. Not out of anger. Not to punish anyone. But because I deserve relationships where my presence matters more than my usefulness. I can still wish people well. I can still love them from a distance. I can still remember the good without continuing to sacrifice myself for something that only survives because I keep giving. Sometimes letting go isn't about losing people. It's about finally choosing not to lose yourself. 🤍 #KnowYourWorth #LettingGo #ProtectYourPeace #OneSidedRelationships #SelfRespect
