@ultrabasicmetamafic: Today we are taking a nice lil walk around Dinosaur Ridge to look at some sedimentary structures (actually just ripple marks) and talk about geologic laws (the law of original horizontally). Ripple marks are a sedimentary stucrure that clue you into the conditions of the environment that the rock body was deposited in. They can also show you which direction was up relative to the formation at the time of deposition, meaning that they can be stratigraphic up indicators. Knowing which way is stratigraphic up is useful to geologists because it lets us know how environments changed over time and gives us a sequence of events. The Earth gives us clues to tell its story.
