Three years later, in 1896, the same author published another novel. 1900; or, The Last President. It opens with chaos in New York after an election. Crowds fill Manhattan. And one place is warned it will feel the fury first... the Fifth Avenue Hotel. A boy named Baron Trump. A castle called Trump. A guide named Don. A journey to Russia. And a book called The Last President. All written in the 1890s. Forgotten for over a century. Then the internet found them. Now, here’s what we know. Trump is a real German surname. “Don” is just a Spanish title, like “Mr.” And no link between the author and the Trump family has ever been found. But the books are real. The originals are preserved by the Library of Congress. So how did two old books, written over 130 years ago, end up sounding so familiar?!?!
