@realnatberman2: If you want to get ahead, you must disappoint some people. There’s no version of real progress that skips this part. Every yes you give to your growth is quietly a no to something or someone else. Most people avoid this trade entirely, trying to grow without ever costing anyone else anything. That’s not actually possible. Growth requires reallocating your time and attention away from where it currently goes, and someone is going to feel the difference. Here’s the distinction that matters. Not all disappointment is equal. Disappointing someone because you finally protected your time is different from disappointing someone through carelessness or dishonesty. The people who never get ahead are usually the ones who treat all disappointment as equally unacceptable, and end up making themselves smaller trying to avoid it entirely. The people who build something meaningful learn to tell the difference between disappointment that’s necessary and disappointment that’s simply unkind. You were never going to get everyone’s approval on the way to becoming who you’re capable of being. Someone was always going to be disappointed. The only real choice is whether that person is someone else, or the version of yourself you keep shrinking to avoid it.
